Rain restores the parched Racecourse in Northampton

Northampton's Racecourse has transformed from yellow to green after some much-needed rain.

Just three weeks ago the Racecourse in Northampton was looking yellow and dry after weeks of unrelenting temperatures and no rain.

At the time Peter Kennedy, a professional aerial photographer who runs Premier Drone Services, was able to fly his drone above the park and show the full extent of the sun's damage to the grass.

He said: "I've been living in Northampton for 30 years but I've never seen anything like this. It's just so dry.

"In this line of work, the weather has been ideal for flying the drones. But the footage shows just how dry the grass has become."

Northamptonshire Weather today (Friday) shared a photograph on Twitter showing the difference three weeks on following some much-needed rain.

@NNweather said: "3 weeks ago today The Racecourse in #Northampton was a parched landscape as was much of the county but now, after approx 40mm of rain, the greenness has fully returned."

Temperatures in Northampton will reach around 23-24C this weekend with sunny and clouds spells throughout.
