Round-the-clock operating plans for Earls Barton recycling site pulled back
A bid to extend operating hours at the Earls Barton recycling centre to 24 hours a day has been formally withdrawn.
The application, submitted by Re.Group, aimed to prepare the site for changes linked to the government’s upcoming deposit return scheme, which is set to introduce refundable deposits on certain single-use drink containers.
A letter from Heatons, the planning agent acting for Re.Group, confirmed the withdrawal.
The correspondence, dated September 2, stated: “Re.Group (Applicant) have requested us to formally withdraw the above application at Earls Barton for the Variation of condition 5 (opening hours) and removal of conditions 11, 12 and 13 (catchment area) of planning permission 11/00018/WAS.”

The proposal had drawn criticism from residents living near the site, who raised concerns about possible disturbances during overnight operations. The planned changes were intended to help the facility handle an expected increase in recycling volumes once the deposit return scheme comes into effect.
With the application now withdrawn, the centre will continue to operate under its existing conditions.
