A commemorative plaque will be raised to mark the day a badger fell through the roof of a Northampton town centre Superdrug.Northampton's Grosvenor Shopping centre made national headlines last week after the wayward creature fell through the beauty retailer's ceiling and crashed behind the counter on February 9.

After "making a mess" of the perfume selection, the misadventurous critter was captured by a Northamptonshire Badger Group and safely released in perfect health.

A plaque will be installed outside the retailer's entrance at a future date to mark the event.

Meanwhile, centre manager James Roberts appeared on the BBC Radio Northampton breakfast show this morning (February 17) to unveil the badger has been named 'Baffle'.

The name was picked following a Facebook competition across this weekend. Winner Kirsty Shields was picked from over 300 entries and won a £20 Superdrug gift card.

James said: "It was a really bizarre and wonderful week. Everyone has wanted to know all about the badger and we had a phenomenal response to our competition to name her.

"The story has been uplifting for everyone. We had James Bond-themed names, ones relating to falling through the roof, some Mission Impossible ones too. It’s been amazing.

"Our winner, selected internally, is Baffle. We were all baffled by what happened, but we wanted to keep the theme of b’s at the shopping centre as we have Barkley the Beagle, who sits in the office every day and wanders around the centre.”

After the Chronicle & Echo first reported the badger's adventures, newspapers and media outlets across the country picked up the story and was also mentioned on the BBC Radio1 Greg James breakfast show.
