England football legend to open new GO Outdoors store in Northampton retail park – with prizes worth hundreds for shoppers at grand opening
A new GO Outdoors store is set to open in Northampton later this month, with a special launch event featuring a former England football legend and a chance for shoppers to win prizes worth hundreds of pounds.
The 44,000 square ft store, based at St James Retail Park on Towcester Road, will open for business on Friday November 14, ahead of a grand opening event on Saturday, November 22.
England football legend David Seaman, a keen angler, will officially cut the ribbon at 9am on the day of the launch. He will also take part in a meet and greet with customers that morning.
The first 200 customers through the doors will receive an envelope containing the chance to win a £500 gold voucher, two £200 silver vouchers, and two £50 bronze vouchers to spend in-store.

Those queueing will be offered a free hot drink from an on-site coffee van. The event will also feature a DJ, balloon modeller and face painter, along with raffles and giveaways throughout the day.
Outdoor brands will be getting involved too – Dometic will host an in-store treasure hunt with branded prizes worth up to £750, while Yeti will offer a free engraving service for any drinkware purchased on the day. Jack Wolfskin will challenge visitors to crack a code to win a jacket and other prizes.
Golf fans can also take part in competitions run by American Golf, including a ‘straightest drive’ contest with a custom-fit driver worth up to £529 and a ‘pressure putt’ challenge for a £250 voucher. Fifty goodie bags will be given to the first customers who spend over £50.
The new store will stock a wide range of outdoor brands, including Rab, OEX, Yeti, Peter Storm, Garmin and Berghaus, and will offer free parking for customers.
Departments will include Leisure Lakes cycling, a Fishing Republic concession, a Naylors equestrian range, and American Golf, as well as climbing and running sections. Boot and rucksack fitting services will also be available.
Twenty new team members have been recruited, bringing total staff numbers at the store to 40.
A spokeswoman for the store said: “We are over the moon to be opening the doors of our new GO Outdoors store, and to bring the best in outdoor equipment and apparel to the people of Northampton.
“Our team here is full of outdoor enthusiasts who take pleasure in helping inspire and equip others for whatever adventure they’re gearing up for. From dog walkers, golfers, anglers and equestrians, to festival goers and mountaineers, everyone is welcome – and there is something for everyone!
“The team can’t wait to celebrate on November 22, and we hope to see the local outdoor community come out in force for a fun-filled day.”
The store is based at the former DW Sports store, which closed down in August 2020.
