Another shop closes at Northampton's Grosvenor Centre

Another retailer has left Northampton's Grosvenor Centre, marking the latest store closure at the town centre shopping destination this year.

The Three store on the ground floor of the shopping centre closed this month (June), with signs directing customers to the nearby Vodafone store.

A notice on the shutter says: "Now that Three and Vodafone and now part of the same team – find us in your local Vodafone store.”

The closure follows Vodafone and Three's merger, which completed last year. Earlier this month, Vodafone announced it had agreed a £4.3 billion deal to buy out CK Hutchison's stake in the VodafoneThree joint venture, making Vodafone the sole owner of the business.

Margherita Della Valle, Chief Executive of Vodafone Group, said: “A year on from the merger, the team has made remarkable progress, as we maximise the full potential of VodafoneThree and capture the significant synergies.

“I’m delighted that we will now have full ownership of VodafoneThree as we roll out one of Europe’s most advanced 5G networks, provide the UK’s best customer experience and drive long-term value for our shareholders.”

The closure is the latest change at the Grosvenor Centre following a number of departures in recent months.

In spring, Apple reseller iStore closed after its lease expired. The shopping centre also confirmed Claire's Accessories had ceased trading in April as part of a nationwide closure programme affecting all of the retailer's UK stores.

Fashion retailer Quiz has also left the centre this year.

The Grosvenor Centre has been contacted for comment.
