At the end of last month, we shared a list of 10 female-owned businesses that we have been lucky enough to interview so far in 2024.
That story gained a lot of traction on social media, with loyal customers and founders themselves commenting the names of female-owned businesses that deserve to be shouted about.
As a result, we have put together a list of a further 13 businesses to celebrate – as recommended by you.

5. Spread
Sandwich shop Spread opened its first store in January last year in Adnitt Road, Abington, less than three years after grazing tables and boxes kickstarted the business for Amy Adams. The venture began when Amy created a grazing table for her daughter’s third birthday in May 2019 and this sparked her passion to become more creative with catering. As the hobby gained momentum and the time came for Amy to return to her job in September 2019, she never did and took Spread on full-time. Photo: Spread

6. Scruffy Dog Silver
Founded by Steph Davies in 2011, Scruffy Dog Silver uses sterling silver to create individual pieces that are crafted and finished by hand. All of the designs are Steph’s own. Having been made redundant after 28 years in a former role, setting up this business kept Steph busy and gave her the chance to let out her creative side. The business owner mixes up her designs with copper and the odd splash of gold, and she often stumbles across treasure in the most unlikely of places. Photo: Scruffy Dog Silver

7. Heathers
Heathers, located in Kingsley Park Terrace, is a happy cafe with all day breakfast and light lunch options to eat in or takeaway. The team makes all their own cakes, bakes, fudge, jam and chutneys on the premises. They are always happy to accommodate special dietary needs or if people would like to see an old family favourite on the menu. The business even hosts a craft club, as recommended by one of our readers on social media. Photo: Heathers

8. G’s Barbers
G’s Barbers, in Billing Garden Village, offers all aspects of gents barbering – from haircuts to face shaves. The business was founded by Gaynor Smith back in November 2012 and she has 30 years of experience in the industry.
