One illegal immigrant arrested in Northamptonshire every 10 days on average, according to figures

A total of 72 illegal immigrants have been arrested by Northamptonshire Police at Watford Gap Service Station in the past two years, latest figures have shown.

The service station on the M1 is often the first time hauliers stop to refuel and dozens of immigrants have been found stowed away in lorries.

Figures obtained by The Mail on Sunday show Northamptonshire Police made 72 arrests at Watford Gap, between June 2013 and June 2015. This is equivalent to one illegal immigrant being arrested every 10 days.

Another 19 arrests were made at Northampton Services between June 2013 and June 2014.

In one week in June, 10 illegal immigrants were arrested by Northamptonshire Police, including three Sudanese men who walked into the hotel in Flore and tried to claim asylum.

Prime Minister David Cameron has said he believes the chaos in Calais may last for the rest of the summer.
