Northampton General Hospital fire believed to have been started 'accidentally' as one ward remains closed to patients

A fire at Northampton General Hospital is believed to have been started accidentally, according to the fire service.
Firefighters were called to the Cliftonville hospital shortly before 2pm on Monday (March 13) following reports of a blaze on the ground floor.

Hide AdParts of the building was evacuated as a precaution as firefighters dealt with the incident.
Hospital bosses confirmed on Monday that all staff and patients were safe and that no-one was injured. They also said the fire happened in an area not used for patient care.
Now a Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue spokesman has said that after a fire investigation, which took place on Tuesday March 14, officers believe the fire was started accidentally.
A NGH spokesman added: “Patients are back on our wards, apart from one ward area while estate works are being carried out.”
At least eight fire engines were at the scene and firefighters in breathing apparatus were present for around two hours.
