Around 1,200 children are off school today (Monday) after a network vault in a Northamptonshire village left hundreds of properties without power.

At around 7.30am on Monday September 7 Guilsborough Academy alerted parents that the secondary school would be closed for the day following a power outage.

The statement read: “The school is closed today, Monday 7 September due to a power outage. Lessons will take place on TEAMS.”

It followed a fault on the network on Sunday afternoon which left 1,657 properties in and around Guilsborough without power.

According to National Grid, power was restored to everyone at 11.35pm on Sunday.

It is therefore understood that any ongoing issues with power would relate to individual properties rather than the network.

A spokesperson for National Grid Electricity Distribution told the Chron: "A fault on our high voltage network caused a power cut affecting 1657 customers in and around Guilsborough on Sunday afternoon. Our engineers attended and worked to restore supplies as quickly and safely as possible, with all customers restored by 11.36pm that evening."

Anyone experiencing power cuts today can call 105 for help.
