Northamptonshire Police step up patrols to tackle robberies over Halloween and Bonfire Night
Police patrols are being stepped up across Northamptonshire over Halloween and Bonfire Night to prevent robberies and thefts as darker evenings bring people out for seasonal events.
Northamptonshire Police said officers will target key locations and crime hotspots through Operation Sentinel, an initiative aimed at tackling robbery and other acquisitive offences.
A police spokesperson said the operation would involve increased patrols as residents attend celebrations and travel through busy town centres and neighbourhoods.
Detective Inspector Hayley Thurston said: “We want everyone to enjoy the Halloween and Bonfire Night season safely, but we are also asking people to remain alert and take simple precautions to protect themselves and their property.”

She warned that robbery could have a devastating impact on victims, while stressing that responsibility for any offence rests solely with the perpetrator.
Police are advising residents to keep phones, jewellery and other valuables out of sight, particularly when walking through crowded areas.
People are also encouraged to remain aware of their surroundings, avoid distractions such as using phones while walking, and choose well-lit routes.
Where possible, officers recommend travelling with friends or family and remaining alert to anyone following them or showing unusual interest in their belongings.
Detective Inspector Thurston added: “We would also encourage residents to report suspicious behaviour to us. Information from the public is invaluable in helping us identify offenders, prevent crimes and keep people safe.”
Suspicious activity can be reported to Northamptonshire Police on 101 or online at www.northants.police.uk/ro. Call 999 in an emergency.
