Goals from Billy McKay and Michael Jacobs took the tie to a penalty shoot-out where Abdul Osman's decisive kick secured a famous victory - but what happened to those 11 starters, and manager Ian Sampson, in the years since their Anfield success? Let's take a look...
9. Ryan Gilligan
Was coming towards the end of his seven-year spell at Sixfields when Town upset Liverpool and he too moved abroad. Had several years in Sweden, including for Östersunds under Graham Potter, and now coaches Finnish side Kemi City.
10. Michael Jacobs
His goal almost won it in extra-time before Liverpool hit back. The local lad is still only 28 and will be up against the Cobblers this season after his recent move to Portsmouth. Has played for Derby, Wolves, Blackpool and Wigan. Photo: Pete Norton
11. Billy McKay
Cancelled out Milan Jovanovic's opener with a second-half strike. His clubs since include Inverness, Wigan and Dundee but he's been at Scottish Premiership side Ross County from 2018, scoring 28 times in 81 league games. Photo: Pete Norton
12. Ian Sampson
The architect of Town's famous victory left the club at the end of that season but he returned to Cobblers last October as academy manager and says he still holds very fond memories of what was a 'fantastic night' at Anfield. Photo: Pete Norton
