Goals from Billy McKay and Michael Jacobs took the tie to a penalty shoot-out where Abdul Osman's decisive kick secured a famous victory - but what happened to those 11 starters, and manager Ian Sampson, in the years since their Anfield success? Let's take a look...
5. Liam Davis
Now 33, the left-back has made over 100 appearances for Torquay United across the past three years, helping them to the National League South title in 2019. He's also played for Oxford, Cheltenham and Yeovil.
6. Kevin Thornton
He's not been short on clubs following his departure in 2011! In the nine years since, he's played for Nuneaton, Wrexham, Tamworth, Barwell, Rugby Town, Coventry United, Hinckley AFC and most recently Racing Club Warwick.
7. Ben Tozer
Didn't leave Cobblers for another five years, racking up nearly 200 appearances for the club. He then played for Colchester, Yeovil and Newport but seems to have found a settled home at Cheltenham Town.
8. Abdul Osman
Scorer of the winning spot-kick, Osman moved to Greek club Kerkya in 2011 before returning to England with Crewe. Four years at Partick Thistle followed but is now a free agent after being released by Queen of the South in June. Photo: Pete Norton
