A building on a University of Northampton campus was lit up blue to thank NHS staff for their hard work during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Energy Centre on the new Waterside campus, which can be seen from many buildings in Northampton General Hospital, was first lit up in the colour of the NHS at 8pm on Thursday (March 26) when many people stood at their front doors and clapped for the NHS.The message that simply read 'thank you' stayed on the building, which provides energy for the whole campus, for 30 minutes.

Police officers patrolling the campus saw the poignant message on Saturday (March 28) and took to Twitter to share it.

The tweet said: “We spotted this earlier when on patrol @UniNorthants. We are incredibly grateful to the amazing work all the staff @NHSuk are doing.

“Please STAY at home and protect the NHS. #ThankYouNHS #StayHomeSaveLives.”
