'It was so emotional': Northampton does NHS proud as clapping heard across town

As the clock struck 8pm last night, hundreds of Northamptonians took to their door steps, balconies and windows to cheer on the NHS in their efforts to combat the coronavirus outbreak.

A national campaign asked Northampton to join hundreds of thousands of people across the country last night in a round of applause for our incredible medics working round-the-clock on the front line.

The viral 'Clap for Our Carers' campaign asked for the UK to show their appreciation for healthcare workers, and Nothampton did not dissapoint.

One reader even likened the sound of clapping heard across the town to 'hand thunder' as fireworks were reportedly seen in Wellingborough Road and Standens Barn.

It was an emotional moment as this town's community spirit prevailed.

Cul-de-sacs united and pots and pans were drummed.

Harriet Murphy-Kirk from Kings Heath said: "Kings Heath you done the NHS proud. What a moment, this will be remembered....it was so emotional.

Aimee Sarah Barker from Upton said: "A beautiful moment I’ll never forget."

While Lucia Pilkington from Spinney Hill Road added: "You made me a proud NHS worker tonight. Thank u - stay safe everyone."
