New state-of-the-art Northampton leisure centre should be ready to open as soon as lockdown restrictions allow
The centre, including a swimming pool and health spa, was due to open at the start of 2021, but lockdown halted those plans
A brand new, state-of-the-art Northampton leisure centre should be ready to open as soon as lockdown restrictions are lifted, according to the owners.
Moulton Leisure Centre, run previously by Moulton College as the Chris Moody Centre, has had a multi-million pound revamp.
The centre was due to open on January 2 this year, but was delayed by another national lockdown.
Now that the Prime Minister has announced the road map out of lockdown and confirmed gyms should be able to reopen on April 12 as long as the four conditions are met, the company in charge of the site is hoping to be ready to open as soon as restrictions allow
Jamie Brightwell, contract manager for Everyone Active, said: "As part of the leisure industry, we welcomed the latest Government announcement and the steps to reopen leisure facilities and sports activities.
“Our team at the new Moulton Leisure Centre will be working hard to ensure we’re ready to open as soon as we get the green light.
“The opening date will be subject to any Step 2 changes but we’ll continue to keep all customers informed on the timings and all safety measures in place at our centres.”
The Moulton College site has been converted into a second public leisure centre for the district – alongside Daventry Leisure Centre – using £8.5 million of funding from local housing developer contributions.
The centre will offer a range of facilities, including a six-lane, 25m swimming pool with moveable floor, two therapy pools and a changing area specifically for baby and pre-school swimming.
It will also include the first health spa in the area – comprising a steam room, sauna and spa pool – as well as a 60-station fitness suite, multi-activity studio, spin studio.
Mr Brightwell added: “Ensuring our colleagues and customers remain safe is our priority and we have carefully considered the strict measurements to ensure we adhere to the guidance.
“This fantastic new leisure centre is the perfect modern facility for Moulton’s families and it’s a great next step in our growing partnership with Daventry District Council.
“The centre will offer vital support to the health and wellbeing to people in the east of the Daventry District.”
More details about the opening will be released as soon as a date is confirmed.
