The healthcare watchdog visited Hylton Care in July, rating it ‘good’ across safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led categories.

Hylton Care provides personal care at home for adults, alongside those with dementia and disabilities.

A CQC spokeswoman said: “We found that, where possible, people had choice and control over their lives and led their care. People were involved in planning and reviewing their care and the provider worked closely with people and relatives to provide person-centred care.

“There was a consistent staff team in place and there was adequate training provision to ensure staff maintained up to date knowledge.

“People’s needs were thoroughly assessed, including risks, interests and hobbies, and this information was incorporated into their care plans.”

Inspectors also found systems were in place to flag incidents and accidents and make changes to reduce risk.

The CQC raised some concerns about the Mental Capacity Act not being applied to those who were unable to make choices about their care, but says the provider researched and began a new practice to rectify this issue before inspectors concluded their assessment.

Hylton Care registered manager Vanessa Shaw said: “I am immensely proud of our care team and everything they do each day to make a positive difference to the lives of the people we support.

“Receiving a ‘good’ rating from the CQC is a fantastic achievement and reflects the commitment, kindness and excellent practiceshown across the whole team. We will continue working together to maintain and improve the quality of our care.”
