West Northamptonshire school applications open for September 2027 – key deadlines parents need to know
Parents and carers across West Northamptonshire can now apply for their child’s school place for September 2027 – with two important deadlines to remember.
Applications have opened for children starting reception at primary or infant school, moving into Year 3 at a junior school or beginning secondary school in Year 7.
Parents can apply for a reception place if their child will be aged four on or before August 31, 2027.
The deadline for reception and Year 3 junior school applications is midnight on Friday, January 15, 2027.
Families applying for a Year 7 secondary school place have an earlier deadline of midnight on Saturday, October 31, 2026.
West Northamptonshire Council said applications submitted online or by post must be received by the relevant deadline to be considered on time.
Late applications will not be processed until after National Offer Days and will instead be considered during subsequent allocation rounds.
All families who apply on time will receive an offer of a school place on the relevant National Offer Day, after which they will be given information about the next stage of the process.
Councillor Michael Stratton, cabinet member for children, families and education at WNC, said: “Choosing a school place for your child is an important step in their educational journey, whether they are starting Reception, moving to a junior school or beginning secondary school.
“Each stage brings new opportunities and experiences, and it is important to find the school that best meets your child's needs and supports them to thrive.”
He encouraged families to explore the information available from the council and submit applications before the relevant deadline.
A separate admissions process applies to children with an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan.
An independent appeals process is also available to families whose child is not offered a place at one of their preferred schools.
