‘We’re survivors’: Popular Northampton salon shortlisted for three national hairdressing awards

A popular town centre salon has been shortlisted for a number of prestigious national awards.

Despite being closed for more than three months, G&E McIntyres in The Ridings, has faced the challenges of 2020 head on and is now being rewarded for adapting the business during the pandemic.At the HJ’s British Hairdressing Business Awards, the company is up for the customer service award and the team is also hoping to win salon of the year once again after they took home the title last year.

Team member Korey Grantham is also one of six stylists in the country left with a chance of winning stylist of the year.

Owners Gavin and Ella McIntyre said: “This year has certainly tested the hair industry to its limits and our business has faced challenges we never imagined we’d see.

“As salon owners, we’ve become used to adapting, taking risks, seeing what works and re-evaluating for the benefit of our business, and these skills have certainly helped us to weather the storm in the last few months.

“To be named as a finalist feels wonderful.

“These awards prove to us that hairdressers are strong and resilient. We are survivors.

“We wouldn’t have been able to achieve this recognition without the support of our brilliant team who have stood beside us with incredible enthusiasm and commitment.”

Jayne Lewis-Orr, executive director of HJ’s British Hairdressing Business Awards added: “This year has required hair salon owners to adapt, think creatively and showcase tremendous amounts of resilience.

“I can only imagine how nerve wrecking the last few months have been, but to be named as a finalist in multiple categories, shows just how exceptional G&E McIntyres is.

“We wish them the best of luck.”

G&E McIntyres will find out if it has achieved the top spot at an awards evening on January 25, 2021 at the London Hilton in Park Lane.
