A Northampton salon that will reopen its doors this weekend has released a thorough video of what customers should expect.

G&E McIntyres, in The Ridings, St Giles’ Street, is prepared and ready to open on Saturday (July 4) after hairdressers were given the go-ahead to reopen by the Government.

As part of the preparation, husband and wife owners, Gavin and Ella McIntyre, filmed and released a step-by-step video so that customers can see what the salon will be like before they arrive for their appointment.

The video starts with how customers will be greeted and then it shows the hand sanitising station, the PPE they will be given, how they should move around the salon and finally how they can pay safely.

Gavin said: “It’s been a difficult time for us, as we weren’t sure how long we would be closed for, but we’ve just tried to keep in touch with guests and get ourselves into training.

“It’s been challenging but we will come out of this better and stronger and we will carry that forward.

“We had a good feeling about five weeks ago, so we started planning for July.

“In the last couple of weeks we have completed risk assessments and acted on Government guidelines, as well as adding our own.”

The salon has been transformed with social distancing markers and disposable, single-use gowns and towels have been introduced, in line with Government guidelines.

The couple, who have also implemented an air purifier, expect some of the measures to become permanent fixtures.

Gavin added: “We are making sure we are doing everything we can to keep everyone safe, including ourselves.

“Ella and I are young and we’re seen as being young, but we don’t want anyone worrying that we aren’t taking this seriously.

“I think some of the measures will be around for a long time. We’d like to keep the hand sanitising stations.”

The salon, which will operate at 50 percent capacity, will be busy when it reopens on Saturday as Gavin said all the colour and cut appointments are booked for a month and a half.
