A major national retailer is set to close its last remaining store in Northampton after 30 years of trading at the site.

Riverside Retail Park will soon lose a prominent brand, as Homebase has confirmed it will be closing its doors for good on September 6.

A Homebase spokeswoman said: “We’re really disappointed to be closing our store in Northampton after 30 years.

"Our doors close on September 6, and we’re working closely with our team members to explore other opportunities within Homebase.”

The retailer, with its wide variety of furniture, lighting, and seasonal décor, has always been a favourite spot for those looking to spruce up their homes and gardens. A closing down sale is currently underway at the store.

Plans were submitted in April to divide Unit A1 at Riverside Retail Park, currently home to Homebase, into two separate units and give it a makeover.

Reports suggest that Homebase wanted to stay but was not included in the landlord’s future plans.

It is not yet known what will take over the site once Homebase vacates in September.

Riverside Retail Park has been contacted for comment.

The Homebase at Riverside is the last one standing in Northampton after the store in Weedon Road, Sixfields, closed down in 2019.

The last remaining Homebase in the whole of Northamptonshire is at Abby Retail Park in Daventry.
