It’s Small Business Saturday this weekend – here’s why you should support your favourite Northampton independents

Small Business Saturday is fast approaching this weekend, and here is why you should support your favourite independents across Northampton.

This annual celebration encourages support for the UK’s much-loved 5.45 million small businesses, and encourages the nation to spend and shop with independents.

Small Business Saturday takes place on the first Saturday in December and is a well-established national movement to spotlight the small businesses that make a big difference to our communities and economy.

Northampton is no exception to this, with a wide variety of businesses passionate about making the town a better place for residents and visitors alike.

Small Business Saturday is placed at the perfect time, with most people in full swing of Christmas shopping to prepare for the big day.

Though it can be easy to resort to the convenience of online shopping from the comfort of your home, your purchases are guaranteed to put smiles on the faces of independent business founders if you opt to support them at this busy time of year.

Despite the fact most business owners have told me that the final quarter of the year is their busiest time, this does not mean they do not need your continued support and they cannot rest on their laurels.

Although their sales may pick up, this importantly carries them through the quieter months of January, February and March – so the increase tends to even things out rather than boosting them further.

If you have time this weekend in the midst of the festive chaos, why not pay a visit to your favourite independents to support the national Small Business Saturday push.

Even if you purchase just one Christmas gift from a small venture rather than a big conglomerate, this will have a snowball effect if others do the same and make a noticeable difference to the people of this town, their families and Northampton’s economy.

There is no doubt that we as individuals can make a difference and although it may take more effort or cost a slight bit more for the quality you will receive, you are helping to sustain the variety on offer in this town moving into 2026.
