KFC customers who left their unwanted packaging strewn all over surrounding car parks in Northampton have been roundly criticised by Chronicle & Echo readers.

Chron readers on social media predominantly lambasted those who did not take their litter home.

John Cooke wrote: "Simple, take your rubbish home. There's no excuse for the mess all over town now they've reopened."

Heather Dawes added: "Filthy animals. I was taught in school years ago why you took your rubbish home, maybe we need to go back to that kind of learning? After all we have just perfected the 'hand washing' ritual?"

Pip Dannecker commented: "So people think it's either KFC's fault or the council for not emptying bins? How about people just take their rubbish home and dispose of it?"

And Russell Rainbow posted: "It's take away only so the food should be eaten in a car or at home, the rubbish shouldn't even be going in the local bins it should be taken home.

"Too easy to blame KFC it's the tramps around the town dumping their rubbish."

Some did blame KFC for not being more proactive in tidying up the mess though, especially after the company said some of its 'cleaning partners' had been furloughed.

NiNi Green commented: "Not sure why KFC aren’t picking all this c*** up. It’s literally part of their job to clean up the car parks of KFC rubbish.

"I’d know, did it enough times as a teenager. Pull your finger out, lazy staff."

Amanda Gibson added: "If KFC were eager enough to open, they should be eager enough to clear up this mess, which obviously their customers are unable to walk to do so by walking to a bin!

"What does this kind of disgusting lazy behaviour teach young children."

A few people suggested introducing number plate recognition cameras at drive-thrus which then put the customer's registration plates on their packaging so the authorities know who littered.

Pete Cobbe wrote: "The registration numbers of the cars collecting the orders should be printed on the packaging to the idiots dropping their rubbish can be traced."

While others lamented how things have 'gone back to normal' after the coronavirus lockdown with overflowing bins and litter.

Richan Booth posted: "So no different than normal then I’ve always advocated that fast food chains should pay to clear up the rubbish that is created by their products."

And Erica Barnes added: "Why the surprise, it is always like that. Ignorant individuals with no respect for the environment."
