Car parks around KFC in Northampton have been littered with packaging over the weekend.

More people have been taking advantage of the slightly relaxed coronavirus lockdown by getting some finger-lickin' good chicken.

But car parks in Sixfields and St James have been left in a state with fast-food wrappers, boxes and nitrous oxide canisters strewn all over the place.

Tony Young lambasted the litterers in a post on Facebook alongside a collection of pictures of rubbish in the Currys car park from Sunday (May 17).

"This shows that the idiots of Northampton can’t even help themselves," he wrote.

"You should be absolutely ashamed of yourselves. No pride in themselves or where they’re from.

"Have some respect for others, the community and the environment even if you are visiting the area what is wrong with you."

KFC restaurants at Sixfields and Towcester Road reopened on May 7, having initially closed at the beginning of the Covid-19 crisis, prompting long queues of customers.

This weekend seems to have been particularly bad for litter with the bins now full and unwanted packaging left to the elements.

Kirsty Lovell tweeted the fast-food giant after coming across a load of KFC rubbish in the car park of St James Retail Park

"Just got off the beautiful canal after a long run to this sight! I couldn’t even fit all the rubbish in my photo, Takeaway means take it away! Absolutely disgusting," she commented.

Back in Sixfields, dozens of nitrous oxide canisters, commonly known as laughing gas, were left in the car park by Cineworld as well as KFC wrappers.

A KFC spokesperson said: “We’re really pleased to see the people of Northampton have missed us and we’re glad to be back.

"But with a lot of our cleaning partners still on furlough, it's a little trickier than usual to stay nice and tidy.

"Being a good neighbour is important to us so we’ll carry on upping our regular litter picks, and we’d encourage our guests to take their litter with them or put it in the bin where possible.”
