“We never thought it would have this impact”: The health and wellbeing podcast celebrating its 50th episode
Meeting over 25 years ago, Sally and Ann never imagined that they would be hosting a health and wellbeing podcast that would grow into a community of people looking to improve their everyday habits.

The idea was formed when the pair began listening to similar shows whilst at the gym, when Sally suggested that they make their own based on what they had been learning about exercise over the years.
Their main aim is to support their audience through their wellbeing journeys, speaking to field experts and providing valuable information to make the process as easy as possible. The pair are keen to help as many listeners as possible, with Ann saying: “It’s all about empowering women to live their best lives.

“By hosting a podcast, we can choose who comes on, we can choose what’s going to benefit the people out there,” the co-host added.
Sally explained that the ideologies that some may link to becoming healthier aren’t as daunting as they may appear: “What we’re trying to get across to people is that you don’t have to make some massive leap.”
She continued by speaking about the decision behind naming the podcast, saying: “It’s all about small, consistent, achievable steps and that’s where the ‘1%’ comes from - you don’t have to change your diet overnight, just change really small habits over a long period of time”
Since starting the series, the friends have competed in two Hyrox races and are continuing to use the advice they gain from their guests towards their own personal fitness goals.

Ann shared what the process of improving their own fitness was like throughout their training, saying: “We’ve followed the journey of small steps and what we’ve achieved following that method has been quite unbelievable.”
Listeners of the 1% Happier and Healthier podcast have shared their achievements with the pair in recent months, from bettering their eating and drinking habits to taking the leap and addressing health concerns with professionals.
Ann and Sally interview guests from all kinds of backgrounds in order to give their audience a broader level of support, which has included both physical and spiritual topics, “We had Alison Francis, an expert in crystals, talking about their power – which was phenomenal,” said Sally.
Ann agreed with her co-host, adding: “We had Marc Finney on to talk about longevity and strength training, which was also really interesting,
“He actually helped me from that conversation, I went on to work on some of my own personal fitness based on what he spoke about,” she went on to say.
The two friends work together to harvest as much information as possible for the online community they’ve built, with Sally saying: “We’re like sponges for all of our guests, then we kind of package it up for the women in our program.”
The entrepreneurs are keen to spread awareness to women across the UK by making it clear that becoming the best version of yourself is easier than you might think.
The 50th episode of ‘1% Happier & Healthier’ was released on Friday, April 10, and is available on all streaming platforms.
