Supporting people of all ages into work

Julie Pritchard, DWP Recruitment Consultant for Northamptonshire, said: “This landmark event is a fantastic opportunity for people of all ages to meet employers face-to-face, explore vacancies and access training that can lead directly into work. We know personalised support helps people build confidence, develop skills and progress in their careers at every stage of life. Our Work Coaches are ensuring people understand the full range of support available, including tailored support for young people starting out, those aged 50 plus, and people with disabilities or health conditions.”

Creating opportunities for young people

Alongside the careers event, Jobcentre Plus is continuing to expand support for young people aged 18 to 25 across Northamptonshire.

This includes ring-fenced work experience placements within Jobcentres, delivering Meaningful Movement to Work opportunities that go beyond traditional work experience. These placements provide structured, supportive environments where young people can:

  • Build confidence

  • Develop transferable skills

  • Gain first-hand insight into the world of work

Wider support this summer

Jobcentre Plus is also supporting people of all ages into work by promoting seasonal opportunities across hospitality, retail and events, alongside initiatives such as SWAPs and local job fairs, helping match employers with a diverse pool of candidates.

National support for jobs and growth

Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Pat McFadden, said: “This month’s figures show that there are 400,000 more people in work than this time last year, but we know ongoing instability in the Middle East is causing uncertainty in our labour market. We have the right economic plan for growth and stability in a volatile world—and we are taking action to create opportunity and make sure that no one is left behind. We are pushing ahead with the biggest youth employment reforms in a generation, creating almost a million opportunities for young people through our Youth Guarantee backed by a £2.5 billion investment, and supporting 300,000 disabled people through our Connect to Work programme.”
