Mary was a regular worshipper at St. Andrew’s and was a devoted friend of the school, serving as a Governor for many years until her health made it impossible for her to continue. Mary’s passion for science and her commitment to upholding the school’s Christian vision and ethos were inspiring. She was diligent and always generous with her time, and we were so sad to say goodbye.

After successfully gaining a grant from Tesco, alongside money raised by our Friends of St. Andrew’s Group, FOSA, to improve outdoor learning, St. Andrew’s knew that Mary would have been delighted.

As a result, they decided to commission an outdoor learning space to allow investigation in nature to be a more year-round option. With Mary’s husband David, and two of their daughters by his side, Reverend Richard of Billing Parish Church opened the space in her honour. The House Captains read Psalm 148, thanking God for our amazing world, and the whole school sang in praise on the playground.

Mrs Giffiths, Headteacher, said, “We now have a space that is shaded in the heat and provides cover in the rain. This will allow Science learning to take place in nature. Our spiritual mantra is to praise God in the Ow, Now and Wow moments of life. What is more Wow than God's gift of the Earth? Taking time to be outside is a well-known benefit to good mental health and a wonderful way to connect with God. We are sure that Mary was with us to celebrate this special day.”
