Prostate cancer blood tests offered to men over 40 at event in May

Northampton Prostate Cancer Support Group have organised an event on Saturday May 16 at Northampton College, Booth Lane, at which men aged 40 and over will be offered blood tests to check for elevated levels of Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), which may be an indicator of prostate cancer.

This event is a collaboration between Northampton College, The Graham Fulford Cancer Trust and the Northampton Prostate Cancer Support Group.

Tests are being offered to men aged 40 and over, as we believe that early detection is vital to give the best chance of survival, and current NHS guidelines only offer tests at age 50.

Tests usually cost £26 but are being subsidised by the support group, and must be booked on the website (link below) at a cost of £20.

Test results are normally returned by email within 48 hours, with recommendations for those with high PSA levels to see their GPs.
