Production of 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time' at Moulton Theatre
Moulton Theatre is a local amateur theatre, situated in the heart of Moulton village, which was established in 1946. It is a registered charity and is run entirely by volunteers. It stages 5/6 main productions a year in its 70-seat auditorium and also runs a Youth Theatre for 8–16 year olds. It has a licensed bar and is open every Saturday morning for coffee, between 10am and 12pm.

Our current production this week, running from 11th- 16th May 2026, is ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time’, a play by Simon Stephens, based on the novel by Mark Haddon.
Here is a synopsis and introduction to the play, by its director, Max Troy: -

‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time’ is a very interesting but challenging show. I very much wanted to direct this play as I see my own son who is on the spectrum but does not recognise his situation of self-isolation. I have tried to ground this production in reality as opposed to some peoples’ perceptions and expectations of this condition.
The play revolves around Christopher Boone; a schoolboy who finds Wellington, his neighbour’s dog, has been killed with a garden fork. The neighbour accuses Christopher of the crime and he makes it his mission to find out who killed the dog.
Christopher is forced to confront uncomfortable aspects of his life and deal with unexpected challenges, which divert him from his mission. This creates a terrible strain on his relationship with both his father and his mother. His parents both want the best for their son, but are sometimes at a loss to know how to support him.
In the lead role we are very lucky to have a young actor making his debut with Moulton Theatre, who acknowledges that he has certain traits of the condition. Oliver Charman and his family have been invaluable in giving their views and support in how we should present certain aspects of this play. Many of the supporting cast are new to Moulton Theatre. The cast have come from a variety of acting backgrounds and all have been excellent in both their acting and support throughout the preparation for the show.

It is always good to take on a story of this calibre, which pushes our abilities to the limit and it goes without saying that I have really enjoyed directing this show and hope that the audiences all enjoy it too.
