Proaction Martial Arts took part in the national campaign with a series of community-focused initiatives designed to encourage conversation, awareness, and practical support for families.

Throughout the week, students and instructors wore green in support of mental health awareness. The initiative was used as a simple way to raise visibility of the campaign and create opportunities for discussion around emotional wellbeing in children.

Instructors also took time during regular classes to engage students in short conversation about mental health, sharing useful physical and emotional tools, encouraging openness and reinforcing the importance of talking about emotions both in and outside of training.

Alongside regular sessions, the school hosted a free dedicated Mental Health Awareness Week event for families. The event provided an informal setting for parents and children to have fun, learn more about mental health, access resources, and discuss wellbeing together.

A spokesperson from Proaction Martial Arts said the week reflected the ongoing role martial arts can play in supporting young people beyond physical development.

They said: “Martial arts provides structure, consistency, and a supportive environment for children. Alongside physical training, it naturally helps develop focus, discipline, confidence, and emotional regulation. Mental Health Awareness Week gave us an opportunity to bring that into sharper focus with our families.”

The school emphasised that many of the benefits associated with martial arts training - including routine, progression, and positive reinforcement - can contribute to children’s confidence and resilience over time.

The initiative forms part of the school’s wider approach to youth development, with a focus on creating a safe and structured environment for children to learn and grow.

Mental Health Awareness Week is a national campaign aimed at improving understanding of mental health and encouraging open conversation. This year’s theme focused on “action”, encouraging organisations and communities to move beyond awareness and into practical support.
