Overstone Gate Primary School celebrates prestigious eco-schools Green Flag Award

Overstone Gate Primary School is delighted to announce that it has been awarded the prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag Award, recognising the school's outstanding commitment to environmental education and sustainable living.

The award marks a significant milestone for the new primary school, which opened its doors in September 2025. Achieving Green Flag status within its very first year of operation is a remarkable accomplishment and reflects the enthusiasm and dedication shown by learners, staff and the wider school community.

Throughout the year, learners have led a range of environmental initiatives, developing their understanding of how they can make a positive difference to the world around them. Sustainability is embedded throughout school life, helping learners to understand the importance of caring for their environment both now and in the future.

The award holds particular significance for Overstone Gate Primary School, which is being developed as an eco flagship school. Sustainable Living is one of the school's three core principles, alongside Attainment for All and Community Cohesion, ensuring that environmental responsibility is woven into the fabric of the school's vision and values.

Headteacher Kayleigh Smith said: "We are absolutely delighted to have achieved the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award in our very first year as a school. This recognition is a testament to the passion, commitment and enthusiasm shown by our learners, who have embraced every opportunity to become environmental champions."

"As an eco flagship school, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. One of our core principles is Sustainable Living, and we want our learners to understand that even small actions can make a big difference to the world around them. We are incredibly proud of what they have achieved and look forward to building on this success as our school continues to grow."

The school recently celebrated the achievement with members of its Eco Committee, proudly displaying their Green Flag and commemorative plaque.

As Overstone Gate Primary School prepares to move into its new permanent home at Overstone Leys, the school remains committed to inspiring the next generation to become responsible citizens who care for both their local community and the wider environment.
