Northants Knights book fourth straight playoff berth after community event draws strong support
The Northants Knights Academy secured their place in the British American Football Playoffs for a fourth consecutive season on Saturday after an entertaining day of American football in front of a fantastic home crowd at The Grange Sports Field in Earls Barton.
More than 200 spectators turned out to enjoy the club's family-friendly tournament, creating a brilliant atmosphere as supporters packed the sidelines to cheer on Northamptonshire's young talent.
The day began with a tough test against an already-qualified Birmingham Lions side. Despite a determined performance and refusing to back down throughout the contest, the Knights fell to a 38-28 defeat against one of the division's strongest teams.

Knowing their playoff hopes would come down to the afternoon clash with Sheffield Giants, the Knights responded in impressive fashion.
Playing with confidence and composure, they produced one of their best performances of the season to record a 30-19 victory, securing the final playoff place and extending the club's remarkable record of qualifying for the postseason to four consecutive years.
While the football provided plenty of excitement, the event itself showcased the continued growth of American football in Northamptonshire.
Families lined the field throughout the afternoon, many experiencing the sport for the first time, with the atmosphere reflecting exactly what the club hopes to achieve — an exciting, welcoming community event where people of all ages can enjoy a day together.

Individual performances were recognised throughout the tournament, with Jacob Grindley earning Offensive MVP against Birmingham Lions after an outstanding display carrying the football, while linebacker Sam Murat was named Defensive MVP following another relentless performance.
Quarterback Logan Perkins collected Offensive MVP honours against Sheffield Giants after leading the offence with maturity and precision, while Danny Tabberer earned Defensive MVP after an outstanding display on the defensive side of the ball.
The tournament's Overall Most Valuable Player award went to Carter Eady, whose all-round contribution across both games proved instrumental in helping the Knights book their place in the playoffs.
Head Coach Liam Docherty praised both his players and the supporters who created such a memorable occasion.

"To qualify for the playoffs again is a fantastic achievement for this group," he said.
"The players showed real character after the first game, and the way they responded against Sheffield says everything about them.
"What made the day even more special was seeing so many people from across Northamptonshire come down to support us. The atmosphere was brilliant from start to finish, and hopefully we introduced plenty of new people to American football."
The Knights now turn their attention to the Southern Playoffs in Kent on Saturday, 8 August, where they will look to continue their season against the region's best young talent.
