HighGround delivers horticultural therapy to members of the UK Armed Forces undergoing treatment at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre Stanford Hall near Loughborough.

The charity also provides lifelong careers advice, support and guidance to service leavers and veterans looking to build purposeful second careers in the land-based sector. Their flagship ‘Rural Weeks’ provide opportunities to meet employers, undertake site visits and see first-hand the many opportunities available.

Leah Graham, Fundraising and Partnerships Manager at HighGround, said: “Fundraising is never easy and often comes with knockbacks, so it was a real buzz to hear from Barratt Homes that we would be receiving this donation. The really great thing  is that it comes to us with no grant restrictions, which means we can direct the funding to where it is needed most.

“Without the support of organisations like Barratt Homes we would not be able to deliver our life changing work. “One patient of HighGround’s Horticultural Therapy recently shared with us: “It has been invaluable. I struggle to find interest in things and find being inside frustrating. Gardening is the only activity where I have found enjoyment in doing something new”. This is the difference a donation can make to people’s lives.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to Barratt Homes for this support. This contribution will help ensure service people recovering from serious illness or injury continue to receive the help they need.”

In 2025, HighGround’s two specialist Occupational Therapists delivered more than 700 sessions, helping patients find “roots to recovery” in the therapeutic surroundings of the greenhouse and garden at Stanford Hall. With over a decade of experience, HighGround is the only charity offering horticultural therapy within a UK military clinical environment.

Barratt Homes’ donation was made as part of The Barratt Redrow Foundation, which is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the UK to leave a legacy in the communities in which the housebuilder operates.

The Barratt Redrow Foundation is celebrating its fifth anniversary in 2026. Since its launch, it has committed £20 million to charities and good causes, supported over 2,000 different charities, and is estimated to have directly impacted 100,000 young people each year.

Simon Francis, Managing Director at Barratt Homes Northampton, said: “HighGround plays a vital role in supporting members of the UK Armed Forces and helping the transition into civilian life. We’re proud to support a charity that delivers meaningful opportunities and helps build positive futures.”
