Northamptonshire Community Foundation community hero of the week
BAK UP CIC is a community-led organisation supporting individuals and families across Northamptonshire by tackling poverty, reducing social isolation and promoting stronger, more connected communities. Through practical support, community projects and inclusive activities, the organisation helps people build resilience, develop new skills and improve their wellbeing.

A £1,250 grant from the Constance Travis Endowment Fund for Northamptonshire, awarded via Northamptonshire Community Foundation, enabled BAK UP CIC to deliver its Windrush Celebration 2026, a community event recognising the legacy and contributions of the Windrush Generation while bringing people together through education, culture and shared experiences.
The project included school workshops, storytelling sessions, live performances, exhibitions and a large-scale community celebration, creating opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to learn about the Windrush Generation and celebrate the diversity that enriches Northamptonshire. The event also gave older members of the community the opportunity to share their experiences with younger generations, helping to preserve important local stories and strengthen intergenerational connections.
The celebration had a lasting impact on those who took part, with attendees reporting a greater sense of belonging, pride and community connection. The project also strengthened relationships between local organisations, volunteers and residents, promoting greater cultural understanding and creating a lasting legacy of inclusion, respect and community cohesion.
Northamptonshire Community Foundation is the county’s largest independent grant maker, having given more than £25 million in grants since its inception in 2001. This year marks an exciting milestone for NCF – 25 years of inspiring local giving for local needs. Building on this, NCF is also looking 25 years ahead, with bold ambition for a fairer, thriving and more connected county for generations to come. Their latest Impact Report is ready to read here.
