Northampton's young American Football stars set for home tournament this July

Some of Northamptonshire's most talented young athletes will take to the field this summer as the Northants Knights Academy hosts its Under-19 American Football Tournament on Saturday, July 4.

The event, which takes place at The Grange in Earls Barton, will see teams from across the South East travel to Northamptonshire to compete in a day of fast-paced American football action, with kick-off scheduled for 12pm.

Spectators can attend free of charge and organisers hope local residents will come along to experience one of the fastest-growing sports in the UK.

Unlike the NFL seen on television, British youth American football is played without lengthy commercial breaks, creating a fast-paced and exciting experience for spectators while showcasing the athleticism, speed and physicality of the players involved.

The tournament is a significant milestone for the Northants Knights Academy, which continues to grow opportunities for young people aged 13 to 19 across Northamptonshire.

Since launching in 2019, the academy has helped develop dozens of local athletes, with players progressing to Great Britain development programmes, elite academies and opportunities both in the UK and overseas.

Northants Knights Head Coach Jack O'Beirne said:

"This is a fantastic opportunity for people across Northamptonshire to come and see what youth American football is all about.

"Many people have watched the NFL but have never seen the sport being played locally. The standard of youth football in Britain continues to improve every year and we're proud to have some outstanding young athletes representing Northamptonshire.

"The event is completely free to attend and we'd love to see local families, sports fans and members of the community come down and support the next generation of players."

The tournament will also be the first major home event hosted by the club at The Grange and forms part of the academy's wider ambition to continue growing participation in American football throughout the county.

Fans can expect big hits, impressive athletic performances and a welcoming family atmosphere throughout the day.
