British-Chinese family comedy FORTUNE COOKIES now streaming on Amazon Prime Video via Indie Rights.

Fortune Cookies, the British-Chinese family comedy from Screen Northants, is now available to stream on Amazon Prime Video, following its release by US distributor Indie Rights.

Written and directed by Brenda Lee, her feature debut Fortune Cookies is set in 1996 and follows the Lees, a Chinese family running a takeaway in Northampton. Cyril and Joan Lee emigrated from Hong Kong in search of a better life. They have two daughters: Susan, who dreams of becoming an actress, and Jenny, who is happy to help run the family business and is obsessed with the family's favourite gameshow, Fame to Fortune.

When Cyril ignores mounting demands from HMRC over unpaid tax, the family's home and business are put at risk, forcing him to turn to a toxic old friend for help — with consequences that threaten to cost the Lees everything. Hope arrives as they are offered the chance to appear on Fame to Fortune, but, as the family chases a life-changing win, Susan is offered the acting break she has always wanted and must decide what matters most: her family's dreams, or her own.

The film stars Carmen Pat, Siu Hun Li, Belinda Duong, Helena Huang, Lucy Sheen, Robert Firth, Paul Courtenay Hyu, Velton Lishke, Eric Mok, Isabella Speaight, Daphne Cheung and Gang Chi. Fortune Cookies was produced by Screen Northants with support from BBC Children in Need, and was filmed on location in Northampton, including at Golden Hill in Kingsthorpe, the Guildhall, the Racecourse, Royal & Derngate and the Deco.

Paul Mills, Producer at Screen Northants, said: “Fortune Cookies started as a very personal story about family, ambition and holding on to what matters most — and it's been a long road getting it in front of audiences. Seeing it land on Prime Video through Indie Rights means people everywhere can finally watch the Lees' story. It's a huge moment for everyone who worked on this film in Northampton.”

Fortune Cookies is available to stream now on Amazon Prime Video.
