Northampton family opens South Asian Boutique - Saai Collections
The grand opening of Saai Collections in Northampton was marked by elegance, community spirit, and cultural pride, as distinguished guests gathered to celebrate the launch of a boutique dedicated to timeless sarees and traditional South Asian men’s and women’s attire.

Located at 105 Kettering Road, Northampton, NN1 4AU, the boutique sits along one of the town’s most vibrant and diverse streets. Kettering Road has long been recognised as a community hub, home to a wide range of independent businesses, cultural enterprises, and family-run shops. Its significance lies not only in commerce but in its role as a meeting point where cultures connect, traditions are shared, and local relationships are strengthened—making it a fitting location for Saai Collection’s arrival.
The event was officially inaugurated by the Mayor of Northampton, Cllr Jane Birch, who praised the business as a vibrant addition to the town’s diverse retail landscape. In her remarks, she highlighted how small businesses like Saai Collections play a vital role in strengthening community ties and supporting local economic growth.

Joining her was Cllr Enam Haque, who commended the founders for bringing cultural richness and entrepreneurial spirit to Northampton. He noted that the store not only offers beautiful garments but also serves as a bridge connecting traditions across generations.
Also present was Jabeer Miah, who spoke about the importance of community-led initiatives and the inspiring journey behind the store’s establishment. As a respected solicitor and local businessman, he emphasised the significance of supporting ventures that celebrate heritage while contributing to local development.
At the heart of the celebration was the story behind the business itself. Saai Collections is owned by Kemalatha Hemchandran, wife of Hemchandran Rajakumar, a well-known local businessman and owner of Abington Supermarket. With roots in the Tamil region of Sri Lanka, the family brings with them a deep appreciation for tradition, craftsmanship, and cultural identity—values clearly reflected in the boutique’s carefully curated collection.
Speaking at the event, Kemalatha Hemchandran shared her vision for the store: “It is a real pleasure to bring South Asian culture to the heart of Northampton. We specialise not only in Indian and South Asian sarees and dresses, but also offer children’s clothing, men’s traditional wear, jewellery, and accessories. Our aim is to create a beautiful boutique experience that welcomes everyone to explore and celebrate these traditions.”

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was followed by a tour of the boutique, where guests admired an exquisite range of sarees and traditional attire, each piece showcasing elegance and heritage. Attendees enjoyed a warm and welcoming atmosphere, filled with conversation, celebration, and a shared sense of pride.
The grand opening of Saai Collections marks not just the launch of a new store, but the beginning of a space where tradition, culture, and community come together—perfectly at home on one of Northampton’s most cherished and connected streets.
