Northampton dance school celebrates national championship success at UK Closed Championships and Oxford Pro-Am
Step by Step Dance School, based in Northampton, is celebrating one of its most successful competition weekends to date after its dancers returned home with national titles, gold medals and outstanding results from the prestigious UK Closed Championships, held in Bournemouth as part of the event’s 50th Anniversary celebrations.

The school’s talented dancers competed against some of the best ballroom and Latin dancers from across the United Kingdom, producing exceptional performances that highlighted the strength of dance talent being developed in Northampton.
The biggest success of the weekend came from young dancer Honor, who was crowned UK Closed Beginners Champion, winning the Gold Medal in a highly competitive national championship. The victory marks a significant milestone in Honor’s dancing career and is a fantastic achievement for both the dancer and the coaching team at Step by Step Dance School.

There was further championship success for Phil and Melina, who enjoyed an extraordinary competition by winning not one but two national championship titles. The pair were crowned UK Closed Over 35 Champions as well as UK Closed Over 45 Champions, demonstrating outstanding technique, partnership and consistency throughout the event.
Another impressive performance came from Sophie, who competed brilliantly to secure 3rd Place in the UK Closed Beginners and 3rd Place in the UK Closed Novice categories. Competing at national level against dancers from across the country, Sophie’s double podium finish reflects the hard work, determination and dedication she has shown throughout the year.
A special mention also goes to Skye, who chose to compete in the prestigious Open events, facing an exceptionally high standard of competition. Despite dancing against some of the country’s strongest competitors, Skye delivered confident and elegant performances that earned tremendous praise from spectators and officials alike. While the Open categories are among the toughest in the UK, her performances demonstrated remarkable progress and enormous potential for the future.
The celebrations continued at the Oxford Pro-Am, where Step by Step Dance School once again enjoyed an incredibly successful day. Teachers and students combined to win an impressive collection of medals, with Northampton dancers producing outstanding performances across numerous events.

The Oxford competition showcased the depth of talent within the school, with students of all ages and abilities demonstrating excellent technique, confidence and sportsmanship. The results reflected months of dedication, training and commitment from both dancers and coaches.
School Director Andrzej Mialkowski praised everyone involved.
“Events like this remind us why we love what we do. Every medal represents months and often years of dedication, early mornings, hard work and commitment. I couldn’t be prouder of every single dancer who represented Step by Step Dance School and Northampton with such professionalism, passion and determination..These achievements belong not only to the dancers but also to our fantastic teachers, supportive parents and everyone who believes in what we do at Step by Step.”
The school’s latest achievements continue a long tradition of competitive success, with Step by Step Dance School producing national finalists, champions and international competitors while also encouraging hundreds of local people to discover the enjoyment and confidence that ballroom and Latin dancing can bring.
