National Allotment Society launches ‘Grown to Learn’ quote competition
The National Allotment Society (NAS), the UK’s leading representative body for allotment holders, is inviting allotment holders in Northampton to share the valuable life lessons they have learned from their plots as it launches its National Allotments Week 2026 quote competition.

Launched under the theme, ‘Grow to Learn – Lifelong Lessons from the Allotment’, the competition forms part of National Allotments Week which runs from 10-16 August 2026, and celebrates the many benefits allotments bring to individuals, families and communities across the country. As well as producing fresh, healthy food, allotments play an important role in supporting physical health, mental wellbeing, biodiversity and stronger local communities.
Those looking to enter are being asked to complete the sentence, “My biggest learning from an allotment is…” with the Society encouraging participants to share a lesson that has had the greatest impact on them, whether that be practical, personal, humorous or inspirational.
Commenting on the launch of the competition, Sonia Gallagher, National Secretary and General Manager at NAS, said: “Every allotment tells a story and every allotment holder has learned something meaningful along the way.
“Whether it’s the patience needed to grow the perfect tomato, the resilience that comes from working with the seasons, or the friendship and wellbeing found in a shared green space, allotments have a unique way of bringing people together and helping us continue learning throughout our lives.
“Through this competition, we want to celebrate those personal lessons and hear the stories that make allotments so special.”
Selected entries will be featured across NAS communications throughout National Allotments Week 2026, helping to showcase the personal growth, wellbeing, and lifelong learning that allotments inspire. Those featured will receive £50 in garden gift vouchers.
People can enter by emailing [email protected] with their quote, name, town, county, or region, and allotment association, if applicable.
Submissions can also be made via Facebook or Instagram using #GrowToLearn and #NAW2026. All entries must be submitted by 31st July 2026.
