Nick Penny, a writer, composer, musician, and wildlife recordist, is well-known across the district, respected for his gentle, relaxing music inspired by nature. He interweaves hundreds of hours of birdsong recordings into his enchanting performance, collected locally from cuckoos, blackbirds, and nightingales in the Nene Valley.

In a world where communities are increasingly cut off from nature and the outside world, Penny’s evocative work gives audiences a new immersive experience of sounds and emotions, allowing them to feel both the beauty of music and the relaxing sounds of nature.  Nick Penny has been living and working in Northampton for over four decades and remains fascinated by birdsong in the local area. He records and uses the sounds to make his own music.  His performances are always a mixture of music and conversation about his deep passion for the nature that surrounds the River Nene. With the distinct, haunting sound of the cuckoo heard across Stanwick Lakes in recent weeks, this opportunity to listen to Nick Penny highlights the relaxing benefits of the natural environment for communities living and working in rural Northamptonshire.
