Music and Singing shall be my Light – Midsummer concert near Northampton

The Sheppard Singers present a midsummer concert of music for unaccompanied voices on Saturday 20th June, 7:30pm at St Mary’s Church, Great Houghton, near Northampton. Short pieces by 14 composers from the 16th century to present day will range in style and mood from serene devotional harmonies and more dramatic settings of sacred texts by Rossini and Poulenc to jolly madrigals and a Finnish nonsense song. Perhaps the most heartfelt moment for the singers and audience is Frank Ticheli’s expressive ‘Earth Song’ in which music is described as a refuge and light in a world of pain and strife, celebrating peace.

The Sheppard Singers’ Midsummer Concert starts at 7:30pm and funds raised from donations will support the historic church, which is the singers’ rehearsal venue. Interval refreshments available.
