Heroes launch community awareness day for Mental Health

Kelly’s Heroes invites schools, businesses and communities to take part in Kelly’s Day on 11th May

A new annual awareness day is set to bring communities together across Northamptonshire and beyond, as local mental health charity Kelly’s Heroes launches the first ever Kelly’s Day on Monday 11th May.

Taking place on the first day of Mental Health Awareness Week, Kelly’s Day has been created in memory of Kelly and her legacy that lives on in the charity.  The aim  f the day is encouraging open conversations, raising awareness and ensuring more people know where to access support when they need it most.

The day is built around two simple but powerful themes:
Turn It Pink – encouraging people to wear pink or decorate their space to create visible awareness
Pass a Note On – sharing messages of kindness and support to someone who may need it

The campaign is designed to be inclusive and accessible, with schools, businesses, community groups and individuals all encouraged to take part in their own way.  Specially developed packs for schools and businesses, will make it easy to get involved in a way that suits each environment.

For schools, the packs provide creative and engaging ideas to help build the day into the school environment in a fun and meaningful way for pupils and students. This includes activities such as mufti days, message walls, wellbeing sessions and fundraising ideas that encourage participation and open conversation.

For businesses, the packs offer simple ways to get teams involved, including dress down days, bake sales, workplace activities and opportunities to bring colleagues together while supporting an important cause.

John Hewitt, Founder of Kelly’s Heroes emphasised:
“Kelly’s Day is about bringing people together. It is about creating moments where conversations can happen, where people feel seen, and where support becomes more visible. If we can encourage even one person to speak up or reach out, then it has made a difference.”

Representatives of the charity will be based at Rushden Lakes on the day, creating a focal point for the campaign and encouraging the public to get involved, share messages and access support information.

The charity welcome anyone who would like to get involved including individuals.  To find out more about Kelly’s Heroes and how to get involved with Kelly’s Day, email [email protected] or visit www.kellysheroes.org.uk
