Growing community spirit: National Allotment Society issues call for volunteers

In celebration of Volunteers’ Week (1st-7th June), the UK’s leading representative body for allotment holders, The National Allotment Society (NAS), is seeking passionate individuals to help protect, promote, and preserve green spaces across the country.

Supported by a dedicated network of volunteers who are passionate about allotments, gardening and the ‘grow your own’ movement, NAS is searching for representatives in Northamptonshire. It is also interested in hearing from volunteers who can support with social media and finance activities.

An annual UK-wide campaign, Volunteers’ Week recognises and celebrates the valuable contributions of volunteers. The NAS welcome applications from all backgrounds, regardless of gardening experience. In return, those giving up their time will meet like-minded people and play a key role in growing community spirit, while helping to influence change and preserve plots for future generations.

“Volunteering as a regional rep is rewarding and diverse,” comments Sonia Gallagher, National Secretary and General Manager at NAS. “Our reps meet new people, visit new sites, give advice, and have the chance to make a real difference to the allotment movement and the NAS.

“Our mission to offer support, guidance, and advice to our members and those with an interest in allotment gardening can only be achieved in partnership with all of the volunteers that provide support, governance, and assistance to ensure the future of allotments throughout the UK.

“We would love to hear from anyone who is interested in volunteering and who share our passion for preserving plots for generations to come.”
