Former Birch Bros Bus Depot regeneration scheme reaches milestone in Northamptonshire

“Our approach has been to retain the character of the site while giving the building a new long-term purpose”

A regeneration scheme at the former Birch Bros Bus Depot in Rushden has reached a new stage of progress, with one third of the homes now sold.

The development, located on Higham Road, is bringing a recognised local building back into use while retaining elements of its existing character and frontage.

The site is familiar to many in the town, having previously operated as part of the Birch Bros Bus Depot. Its distinctive appearance and prominent position have made it part of Rushden’s local streetscape for many years.

The project has focused on reworking the existing site rather than replacing its identity entirely. The scheme combines restoration of the building’s character with the creation of new homes designed for modern living.

OEH Group, which is behind the development, said the milestone reflects continued progress at the site and interest in regeneration-led housing projects within established town locations.

Daniel Sutton, Operations Director at OEH Group, said: “This is an important project for us because of the history and local identity connected to the former Birch Bros Bus Depot. Reaching this milestone is a positive step as the development continues to progress.

“Our approach has been to retain the character of the site while giving the building a new long-term purpose. We believe projects like this can help bring underused buildings back into active use while protecting elements of local identity.”

The development forms part of OEH Group’s wider focus on regeneration-led housing, where existing buildings and brownfield sites are reworked to provide new homes while respecting the surrounding area.

Work at the former Birch Bros Bus Depot site continues as the scheme moves towards completion.
