Experience Lyveden for free as Festival of Archaeology comes to life
Visitors are invited to celebrate the start of summer with a memorable family day out at Lyveden during a special free-entry weekend marking the Festival of Archaeology.

Managed by the National Trust, Lyveden is one of England’s most intriguing Elizabethan estates. Created by Sir Thomas Tresham in the late 16th century, the site is home to an iconic, unfinished Elizabethan lodge and manor house. Set in tranquil historic gardens, the orchard and moated gardens capture centuries of fascinating history waiting to be explored.
On the 18 July and 19 July, for one weekend only, visitors can enjoy free access to the estate and take part in a range of archaeological-themed activities for all ages.

At Camp Lyveden visitors can become archaeologists for the day with a hands-on play excavation dig and fun ‘Hook-a-Look’ challenge, designed to test observation skills while uncovering clues from the past.
Those looking for an extra adventure can also try their hand at archery and axe throwing from 11am to 3pm on both days. Activity tokens cost £2 each and can be purchased from Visitor Reception on arrival.
A spokesperson for the National Trust said: "Lyveden is delighted to welcome visitors to discover everything this treasured National Trust site has to offer during our free entry weekend. As a predominantly outdoor site, summer is a wonderful time to visit Lyveden, with plenty of space to explore and enjoy the beautiful surroundings while having fun taking part in our family-friendly activities.
"Whether you've never visited before, are a regular visitor or haven't been for some time, we'd love you to come along and join in the fun. It's a wonderful opportunity to experience this special place while helping us care for it for generations to come.”

With free admission, interactive activities and the chance to experience one of Britain’s most remarkable historic monuments, the weekend promises to be the perfect way to start the summer holidays.
