East region success for Northampton Rowing Club Juniors
Northampton Rowing Club juniors Libby Doughty and Fraser McKenzie were in action at the British Rowing Inter Regional Regatta at the weekend.

All 16 regions from the UK send their best rowers to the regatta at the National Watersports Centre, Holme Pierrepont in Nottingham.
With qualifiers for the East region taking part earlier in the season. Libby qualified as 2nd fastest age 16 sculler and Fraser with his crew mate Zac from Bedford Rowing Club qualified as the fastest double scull crew in the age 15 category.
The format of the Inter Regional regatta starts with time trials to establish which of the 6 finals from A to F, the 32 scullers are ranked into and then the finals take place later in the day.
Libby who has recently returned from the GB under 16’s sculling camp, had a great time trial to put her into C final which she won with a very well timed and experienced row. Her time placing her 7th overall.
Meanwhile the boys Fraser & Zac had an exceptional time trial ranking 5th, however with only 2.5 seconds between the fastest 6 boats in the A final, they knew it was going to be a tough race. The A final was a definite nail biter and results were even closer than the time trial. Finishing 5th overall but with only a second separating all 5 boats, it was one of the closest finals of the day. The boys are a new pairing and have only been rowing together since January so with a 5th in the UK notch in their belts the future is very bright indeed.
At the end of the day Eastern region were 1st in the Girls category and single sculling category and 2nd in the boys category. Overall team Eastern came joint first at the Regatta drawing with Thames Upriver East. Much to celebrate for rowing in the area.
