Don't Miss - author event for lovers of pacy thrillers and arctic adventure

Tickets for Oundle Festival of Literature now on sale

Our next fiction event at Oundle Festival of Literature features author Harry Whitehead on the release of his eco-thriller, 'White Road'. Expect geo-political discussions around oil and its excavation in the Arctic, the motivations for those involved in ecotage (sabotage carried out for ecological reasons), the polar landscape and survival in those conditions and how to blow up an oil rig - all things Harry researched when writing this book.

'White Road' is Harry's second published thriller, and he's also Associate Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Leicester where he runs their literary festival. Harry lived in the Far East, for a number of years returning to the UK to work in the film industry as an assistant director, location manager (which took him all around the world) and, latterly, a story consultant with film directors including Ridley Scott, Tony Gilroy, Spike Lee and Roman Polanski.

White Road

Only one knows the truth. Only one can reveal it. Only one can save them all.

Carrie, a Scottish rescue swimmer out of her depth in the High Arctic.

Ross, the owner of an oil rig with a guilty conscience.

Amaruq, an Inuvialuit oil-rig worker caught between two worlds.

Stranded on the Arctic ice with a starving polar bear and a half-dead stranger, Carrie's left with nothing but deadly choices. Ross and Amaruq face their own crossroads. Lives hang on their decisions.

From the cruel Arctic to the corporate backrooms of shady Big Oil, White Road is an authentic and gripping eco-thriller of survival, battled out at the edge of everything.

"A gripping, page-turning eco-thriller, part oil rig drama and part survival story." - Kevan Manwaring, author/editor of Writing Eco-Fiction and Heavy Weather
