Discover more of Northampton with interactive digital trails
People are being encouraged to explore Northampton and discover more about the town’s events, landmarks and green spaces through a new series of interactive digital trails.

The trails have been created by Northampton Town Centre Business Improvement District (BID) with support from West Northamptonshire Council, University of Northampton, and Delapre Abbey, and focus on some of the town’s biggest events and attractions, including the Northampton Music Festival and The Amazing Northampton Run, alongside trails encouraging people to explore Abington Park, The Racecourse and Delapre Abbey.
The trails are designed to give residents and visitors a different way to experience the town, using their smartphones to follow routes, discover interesting facts and learn more about the places and events around them.
The Northampton Music Festival Trail gives festival-goers and music fans the opportunity to discover more about the event’s different stages and venues, providing an interactive way to explore the festival and find out what is happening across the town centre on Sunday, 6 September, as well as a second trail around Northampton’s proud musical past.
For those taking part in or supporting The Amazing Northampton Run on Sunday, 13 September, the new trail highlights landmarks and points of interest along the route, giving runners and spectators an opportunity to discover more about Northampton as they make their way around the course.
The BID has also created a Gruesome History trail, as a fun way for a younger audience to learn more of Northampton’s past, and the Northampton Cabinet Art Trail showcasing the work of local artists on utility cabinets.
Beyond the major events, a series of new walking trails focuses on some of Northampton’s best-known open spaces. The Abington Park, Racecourse and Delapre Abbey trails encourage people to explore these locations while discovering more about their history, features and surroundings.
Mark Mullen, Chief Operating Officer of Northampton Town Centre BID, said: “We’re always looking for new ways to encourage people to explore Northampton and discover something they might not have noticed before.
“These latest trails are particularly exciting because they connect some of the things that make Northampton special – from major events such as the Music Festival and the Amazing Northampton Run, to our parks, history and heritage.
“The trails can be enjoyed at your own pace at a time that suits you. You can be taking part in an event, enjoying a walk with the family or simply spending some time in the town and use your phone to discover more about what is around you.
“We’ve seen how popular this format can be with previous trails, and we want to keep developing new experiences that give people another reason to explore Northampton.”
The trails are free to access through the Vicinity Trails platform. There is no app to download, with users able to access the trails directly from their smartphones.
The latest additions build on the BID’s growing programme of interactive trails, which has previously included trails celebrating Northampton’s shoemaking heritage, local history and the town’s famous landmarks.
