The event also included an art exhibition showcasing paintings completed by the residents, forming a key highlight of the day.

One of the care home’s spaces was transformed into a relaxed studio, with easels, brushes and vibrant palettes laid out for residents to explore. Laughter and gentle chatter filled the room as participants painted alongside one another, guided by the Art Expressions team in a session designed to spark joy, reduce stress, and encourage meaningful social interaction.

For many residents, the event offered a rare opportunity to express themselves creatively in a supportive environment. Some painted for the first time in years; others rediscovered a long-forgotten hobby.

Art Expressions UK CIC, described the afternoon as “a beautiful reminder of how powerful creativity can be in bringing people together.” “Art has an incredible ability to lift spirits, especially for older adults who may experience loneliness or limited social engagement,” they said “Seeing residents smiling, chatting, and proudly holding up their artwork is exactly why we do this. We are grateful to The National Lottery Community Fund for helping us make sessions like this possible.”

The Cliftonville Care Home, Northampton wellbeing team echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the positive impact the event had on residents. “Our residents absolutely loved it,” they stated. “Activities like this create a real sense of community within the home. They encourage confidence, spark memories and give residents something joyful to look forward to. Partnering with Art Expressions UK CIC has been wonderful for our wellbeing programme.”
