On Friday 4 June, pupils dressed up in outfits from different decades to celebrate the school’s 100-year anniversary, and the children also completed lessons related to their assigned decades.

The Mayor of Northampton, Councillor Mike Hallam, was welcomed for a tour of the school and school councillors enjoyed asking him various questions about his role.

A community picnic was held in the afternoon and former members of staff, PCSOs, a local councillor,  members of the Park Grove Lunch Club and family members attended. Year 6 pupils who volunteer at the Park Grove Lunch Club for elderly members of the community were really pleased to see them at the event.

Pupils were also delighted that Dudley the reading dog and his owner Trish attended the picnic. Dudley is a very popular weekly visitor to Cedar Road. He listens to children read and loves to be treated with a dog biscuit.

Before children sat down to eat food which had been donated by parents and families, there was a catwalk on the field, so every pupil could show off their fancy dress.

Everyone sang happy birthday to Cedar Road and Mrs Holowell - the longest serving member of staff, having worked at the school for 29 years - blew out the candles on a special Cedar Road centenary cake.

As ever at Cedar Road, music was a big part of the day with each year group performing a song related to their decade to a large audience.

Clair Mills, Headteacher at Cedar Road, said: “It’s a real privilege to mark the centenary of Cedar Road and reflect on the brilliant school community we have here.

“I want to say a huge thank you to all our staff, parents and pupils for playing an important part in these celebrations, and to the Mayor and all our guests for joining us to mark such a special occasion.

“We want all our pupils to be proud to attend school and look forward to every school day. We are so pleased that everyone had a great time, and we look forward to the years ahead!”
