Red Ensign to be raised at Northampton Guildhall to mark Merchant Navy Day
The Red Ensign will be raised at Northampton’s Guildhall next week as the town marks Merchant Navy Day, West Northamptonshire Council has said.
Members of the public are invited to attend the annual event on Thursday, September 3, which will honour the contribution made by merchant seafarers past and present.
The ceremony will begin at 10.30am and will include speeches from Deputy Lord-Lieutenant of Northamptonshire Adrian Pryce, West Northamptonshire Council chairman Councillor Fiona Baker and Mayor of Northampton Councillor Mike Hallam.
The Red Ensign – the flag of the British Merchant Navy – will then be raised at the Guildhall.

A two-minute silence will also be observed as part of the ceremony.
Merchant Navy Day is held annually to recognise the role played by merchant seafarers.
The Northampton event is open to everyone and will take place at the Guildhall on Thursday, September 3, from 10.30am.
